pace university construction update

henry kaiser once said: "when your work speaksfor itself, don't interrupt." there have been few interruptions lately asnew structures rise up at the knight management center, and the existing buildings start gettingtheir "skin" placed on them. what's often overlooked is, well, the stuffyou can't look over when a building is completed. on this day, in a recessed area of the campus,a lone worker was busy sandblasting. even though a building will be hiding hishandiwork, he slowly, methodically made his way. he's working on what will be the lecturehall and commons buildings. while the dust was flying on the foundationsof a new building, the gunn building, at the corner of arguello way and serra street, hashad its "skin" added.

on the outside it's starting to look nearcompletion but much work needs to be done: it's still lacking a roof and much of theinterior infrastructure is being worked on: the heating, plumbing, telecommunications, and electrical work. one of the things to take note of on the exteriorare the sun shades. while it's a little cloudy this time of year, in the summer the shadeswill allow a great deal of sunlight to be reflected into the building, saving moneyon lighting. after many months, the underground parkinggarage is near completion and the beginning of the faculty office buildings, which willsit on top of the parking structure, are taking shape.

it's been a relatively dry winter so far,and crews have been able to work outside.
