he was committed to yale to play lacrosse,and i was committed to towson. so i was thinking to myself, “why would matt go to yale ifhe had the chance to go to towson. and i remember kids were like playing footballout on the grass. and like everybody was like laying in the grass and doing their homework.and i was like “wow this just looks like a really awesome place and i just really wantedto be a part of it. but i think actually towson looking back,it’s actually a series of small pawns there’s a lot of them. it’s a big schoolin all the best ways, without making you feel lost and anonymous. towson has a unique ability to show you whatyou can be and help you get there.
whether it’s the faculty, whether it’sindividuals and administration, individuals and guidance, they’re there. and they makethemselves available to the students and they want to be involved with the students. andi think that’s always been one of the strengths of towson university. faculty members held you to a certain standardin the classroom as far as understanding what’s going on because they want you to be ableto transition to the real world. planning your career doesn’t start the dayafter you get your diploma. your career actually starts the moment you walk onto the collegecampus. my job is to read other people and that’swhat i learned at towson. so like the fact
that that translated off of some random conversationi had with my advisor is crazy to me. if you say you went to towson university andgraduated with mass comm, a person who’s familiar with towson university and theirmass comm department understands what you had to go through in order to graduate withthat degree. even in the political world you can see adifference between a towson grad and graduates from other colleges around the state. i’ve been able to provide internships fortowson students. the students that we’re seeing that are coming through have been exceptional,very disciplined, very focused, and actually ready for the working world.
you know, did get a great education, had alot of fun, have some great friends from towson, and finding yourself, creating yourself duringthose times. so i think if we didn’t go to towson, things might be a little different. college is 100% about what you make of it.and if you commit to towson, towson commits to you. i know i wouldn’t be sitting on this setif i hadn’t started at towson. i love coming back and i love being a partof anything that i can that involves towson because it really just made me the personthat i am today. you know, i wouldn’t be where i am or who i am, had i not come here.
