♪music♪ jamie kwan:the student learning centre is really this place where allryerson students and all ryerson communitymembers could find home. they could reallymake it their own, they could really collaborateand work with other students, and really innovate andmake our city better. mohamed lachemi:students are part of everything we do at ryerson.
student groups in thehundreds were involved in the initial discussionabout the building, the nature of the building, and also the function that the building willprovide to students. madeleine lefebrve:we’re neutral space for the entire campus. so it means that a studentfrom one program might meet a student from anotherprogram and discover that they do have things incommon and together they
create some new project. so this is like a blankcanvas to let the students determine how it’sgoing to be used. vaidila banelis:i think it’s going to just explode the way they canstudy and stay on campus. you’re going to be able to find your space inthe building. linh nguyen:this place was built for students and by students,
something that hasbeen years in the process. i think with students being involved in the decisionmaking process, it makes this sucha unique place and i think we see it in thedesign and the way that students are flowing inand out of the space. it’s very much built for us. adam kahan:this to me is about the future of learning.
it is about providing flexible, optional spaces wherestudents can learn in the ways that they want to. craig dykers:this is an incredibly vibrant building. it has a multitude ofdifferent types of spaces. it has quiet spaces, loud spaces, tall spaces,
short spaces, wide spaces, narrow spaces. you name it,you’ll find it here. so everyone will beattracted to it for different reasons, whichmeans it will be a centre for diverse thinking anddiverse groups of people. isaac olowolafe:i think the slc is going to become a hub similarto dragon’s den,
where investors are going to be able to collaborate withyoung minded entrepreneurs and basically going tocreate the future generation of business ownersright here in toronto. janice winton:i believe that the slc provides ryerson students what they'vebeen looking for a long time: somewhere to go, somewhere to study, somewhere to hangoutbetween class.
i think it’s going toreally transform ryerson. jessica machado:i think this building speaks to the character of ryerson in thatit’s empowering students all the time to reimagine spaces, to reimagine what they wanttheir spaces to look like. and this was an opportunityfor students to have that opinion heard and to moldtheir future here in this space. my hope for theslc is that it continues to become a transformativespace and allows students to
make it their home. the new student learning centre at ryerson is a place forstudents to be proud of - it builds community and it’sa place for us to call our own. my hope for theslc is that this place becomes the home forfuture change leaders.
